Welcome to The Gujarat State Tax Bar Association
The Gujarat State Tax Bar Association (GSTBA) is an association of Advocates, Tax Practitioners, Chartered Accountants (C.A.), and Consultants located in Gujarat. The association was established in 1954 and currently boasts over 2,150 direct members and 21 institutional members, comprising approximately 5,000 professionals from all over the State of Gujarat and India.
The primary objective of the GSTBA is the dissemination of professional education among the fraternity and to update knowledge, provide guidance, and offer information to taxpayers.
It has always been the association's endeavor to ensure that its members keep pace with fast-changing times in terms of knowledge and competency. The GSTBA aims to spread the latest information and updates to taxpayers by organizing various awareness programs and seminars.

The Gujarat State Tax Bar Association was established in 1954, and its first president and new management team took office in 1960.

The Sales Tax Journal
The Sales Tax Journal (STJ), a publication started in 1960, has a distinguished track record spanning over 56 years. It is highly regarded as an outstanding publication by tax professionals, taxpayers, the VAT Department, State Government bodies, and Trade and Industry members. The Journal features analytical articles and updates on subjects including VAT, CST, Entry Tax, Service Tax, and Excise. The Sales Tax Journal is currently subscribed to by more than 1,000 readers and earned the ICE Award 2016 “Certificate of Participation.”
Educational Activities
The GSTBA conducts a variety of educational activities to support its members and taxpayers, including:
- Seminars and Workshops
- Residential Refresher Courses and Refresher Course Meetings
- Gyanodaya PathShala
- Lecture Meetings on various subjects related to direct and indirect taxes
- Public awareness programs
Additionally, Grievance Cell Meetings are organized annually with Higher Officers of the GST Department to address members' concerns and foster constructive dialogue.
Publications
The GSTBA publishes various books on subjects such as Tribunal Judgements and Determinations. Additionally, it releases the annual VAT Hand Book.
Representations
The GSTBA makes formal representations to various Central and State Government Authorities and GST/VAT Departments. These submissions cover critical areas, including:
- GST, VAT, and CST Laws
- Procedural and administrative issues
These representations often include a pre-budget memorandum submitted to the Central and State Governments.

Sports
The GSTBA organizes various sports events for its members, including Cricket Matches, Chess Tournaments, and Carrom Tournaments.
Benevolent Scheme
The Members' Benevolent Scheme was established in 1990 and currently serves more than 1,270 members.
